Don King Presents His Best Prizefighter Yet, A Videogame.
Friday, June 13, 2008 | Author: The Evil CollectorAside from EA Sports’ Fight Night series, there hasn’t been another boxing simulation to hit the market in quite some time. Considering that the last Fight Night installment was two years ago, it is safe to say that a void needs to be filled for those who adore the sport of boxing. In stores now!
Who better to fill that void than Don King? Yup, that Don King. Known worldwide for his ridiculous (literally and figuratively) vocabulary, the impact he’s made on the sport and his hair – oh you can’t forget about the hair – Don King has decided to toss his hat into the video game arena by cosigning the upcoming Don King Presents: Prizefighter for PS3 and Xbox 360.

While King has been known for his overblown theatrics in boxing press conferences, the same theatrics can be expected in Prizefighter’s gameplay. Instead of the tried and true formula of boxing, Prizefighter brings elements from outside of the boxing world into the game.

Prizefighter follows your career in a documentary style presentation. Outside of the ring, you’ll meet other fighters, train and deal with the temptations of a professional athlete while balancing a boxing career. Not exactly sure how this will play out as story lines haven’t fared well in sport’s games but it could either be innovative or fail miserably.
Featuring the likes of Joe Calzaghe, Samuel Peter, Chad Dawson, Juan Manuel Marquez, Julio Caesar Chavez, Jr., Ricardo Mayorga and Kelly Pavlik as well as legendary fighters such as Ken Norton, Joe Louis and Floyd Patterson, Prizefighter looks to steal away the thunder that Fight Night has built up being the only boxing video game with licensed fighters.

The gameplay has been rumored to be a step in the right direction. Gone are the ways of Fight Night’s analog stick as the button pushing methods are brought back to life. The graphics look beautiful and the soundtrack features the likes of Run-DMC, James Brown and George Clinton. Ringside will find commentators Jim Lampley and Emmanuel Steward offering the play by play. Sounds very much like the real thing – hopefully it plays like it too.

Hopefully the game will live up to its expectations and fill the void for fight fans everywhere.
